Situated in northern Singapore, KTPH Sports Medicine Centre specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and management of acute and chronic musculoskeletal/exercise-related conditions and sports injuries, as well as health problems relating to sports and exercise, through a coordinated team approach to sports medicine.

Our experienced team consists of dedicated sports medicine physicians, orthopaedic surgeons, sports physiotherapists and nurses.  As sportspeople ourselves, we have the knowledge and experience to effectively manage sports injuries.

Using the latest equipment, such as biodex isokinetic dynamometer, electromyographic (EMG) machine, and gait analysis walkway, we can assess the nature and extent of your sports injury efficiently.

Through our integrated approach we help people return to their athletic and sporting activities so they can continue achieving their health and fitness goals.

Additional Specialised Services

Sports Nutrition Consultation

Our qualified dietitians have detailed knowledge and experience to help active people with the best nutrition advice. Our services cover a spectrum, ranging from maximising one's energy levels through diet and choosing the best fluids to optimise one's performance. Likewise, they are able to provide guidance on modifying body fat levels.

Our dietitians also provide professional recommendations on types of foods, ergogenic aids and dietary supplements for training and recovery.

Sports Physiotherapy

Our physiotherapists are experienced in the assessment and the rehabilitation of a variety of sports injuries. The management is individualised and staged to help advance your rehabilitation to meet your sporting needs.

We also conduct a range of specialised classes for ligamentous injuries both pre-operatively and post-operatively, which incorporates strengthening exercises, balance and agility drills to improve stability and reactivity.

Podiatrists manage sporting injuries of the lower limb, foot and ankle. On presentation, a thorough sporting history will be taken, followed by the performance of a detailed biomechanical and gait assessment. Typical Podiatry interventions include identification and education on training errors, footwear advice, prescription of foot orthoses (insoles) to take the strain off injured tissues and to optimise foot and lower function of the athlete. The podiatrists also run the video gait analysis clinic, which looks to identify faulty running biomechanical patterns.

Acupuncture is based on the concepts of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It serves to maintain good health as well as to treat medical conditions by returning the body to its dynamic state of balance.

A wide variety of acute and chronic conditions can be managed by acupuncture. It can be used to treat musculoskeletal and pain-related conditions, digestive problems, neurological conditions, stress-related disorders and also to maintain good health.

Additional Specialised Services

Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT)

Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy or ESWT is a non-invasive outpatient procedure that delivers ultrasound-guided shock waves applied externally into the tissue to be treated. These would include conditions such as plantar fasciitis, enthesiopathies, and tendinopathies such as Achilles tendonitis, patellar tendonitis and tennis elbow.

The ESWT is a safe and effective treatment for patients who have failed conservative non-surgical treatment for the above conditions and provides an alternative to surgical intervention.

Ultrasound-Guided Injection

Ultrasound-guided injections enable direct visualisation of procedures in a real-time manner. In the hands of our experienced physicians, an injection can be guided to the specific site of your symptoms, leading to less need for repeated treatments and improved outcomes. Ultrasound-guided injections are available for joints, muscles, tendons, ligament and nerve conditions. We also specialise in applying this treatment for a variety of back issues, frozen shoulders and ankle ligament instabilities.

Hyaluronic Acid (Monovisc)

Monovisc is a viscous sterile mixture made from highly purified Hyaluronan. Hyaluronan is a natural chemical that is found in the joint tissues and in the fluid that fills the joints. Monovisc is used to relieve knee pain due to osteoarthritis and commonly used by patients who are unable to find relief with simple pain medication or exercise.

It is usually given to the patient through an injection directly into the knee joint.

Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy Service

Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP) uses platelet to promote healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints. PRP Therapy is a non-operative treatment option that relieves pain by using natural means to aid in the healing of musculoskeletal conditions.

PRP therapy aims to accelerate the body’s rate of recovery and help individuals to return to their daily activities faster.

Sports & Fitness Screening

We conduct pre-participation physical examination and certification of athletes, prior to the start of their competitive season or training activity. Our dedicated, multi-disciplinary team of sports physicians, orthopaedic surgeons, sports physiotherapists, podiatrists and nurses will assist you through the screening and any subsequent treatment.

Video Gait Analysis/ Running retraining clinic

The biomechanics and running technique of a runner may predispose or contribute to running injuries. The Video Gait Analysis (VGA)/ Running retraining clinic aims to identify such elements of a runner’s technique through the use of a video analysis software. Once such elements are identified, cues are used to tweak the runner’s technique to allow them to run injury and pain-free.

This clinic also offers advice on other aspects of running such as training load management, running footwear and stretching and strengthening.
