Programme Overview

The NHG Cardiology Residency Program is a 3.5-year program structured in the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) model. Our program’s goal is to provide you with a well-rounded and comprehensive training program so as to equip you with knowledge and skills to be outstanding clinicians who specialize in the prevention, diagnosis, management and rehabilitation of patients with diseases of the cardiovascular system. Under the tutelage of experienced and dedicated clinicians from two parent institutions, Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and Tan Tock Seng Hospital, who are experts in one or more of the cardiac sub-specialties, you will acquire a strong foundation in general cardiology and be given opportunities to develop one or more specific areas of exceptional clinical skill so that you will be international leaders in the various cardiology sub-specialties who are competent, compassionate, patient-focused and committed to life-long learning.

Dr Ling Lee Fong Senior residents will rotate to both KTPH and TTSH for training in a  structured resident-centered and outcome-based  educational program  which aims to enable each resident to achieve clearly defined competencies  for each year of training  and for each module they rotate through. The  teaching program and subspecialty modular rotations are designed to be  comprehensive and clinically relevant. All residents will be rotated in each  cardiology sub-specialty which includes  Echocardiography, Cardiac  catheterization, Nuclear cardiology, Electrophysiology, Heart failure, Acute  cardiac care as well as  having clinical experience in clinical practice  (involving inpatient ward round, outpatient clinic, inpatient consultations),  ambulatory cardiac testing and cardiac imaging.

The senior residents will also have clinical exposure in cardiothoracic surgery and general medicine by having a rotation in  CTVS and GM.

Residents will also be given opportunity to involve in research mentored by faculty members. They will be given  opportunities to present their abstracts and papers in local and overseas cardiology meetings with the ultimate aim of  publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
