MEDICAL EDUCATION

  • Local Electives
  • Electives from Overseas Students

Students from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (YLL SoM) are required to spend 16 weeks on electives towards
the end of 4th year. KTPH encourages and is receptive to accommodating several students for these electives. Many clinicians will offer research or investigative electives to allow students to get involved in projects and learn how to formulate a hypothesis, prepare the study methods, collection of data and analyzing the results. It is advisable that such plans are made well in advance of the commencement of these electives. Some of the projects may be clinical, and others will involve some laboratory work. Other electives can be clinical and usually more specific.

We do welcome a limited number of foreign students who wish to spend some time at KTPH. Many of them want to see how Medicine is practiced outside their own countries. We try to show them the best of Medicine in Singapore and allow them to compare with their own countries. The students ideally should have already commenced clinical teaching in their own universities. Applications are usually made in advance through National University of Singapore (NUS).
