Our Team


Our research administration team facilitates and provides administrative supports to both investigator- initiated and pharmaceutical-sponsored clinical trials. We are awarded Full Accreditation by the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP) on 16 March 2007, 17 March 2010 and re-accredited on 16 March 2015.

  • Management of pharmaceutical sponsored trials i.e. clinical trial agreement (CTA) review and clinical trial budgeting (CTB)
  • Study design and biostatistics consultation clinics and online SPSS (statistical analytical software)
  • Trainings, such as research methodology workshops (epidemiology, statistics and evidence based medicine)
  • Secretariat support to our annual hospital-wide Research Forum for investigators to share their scientific discoveries.



Dr Wang Jiexun

Dr. WANG Jiexun is an expert in statistical analysis and computer programming (proficient in R/SPSS, and competent in Stata). Particularly, she is interested in applying and developing statistical and mathematical methodologies for scientific research in medicine and public health. She received her M.S. in Statistics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics at Kyoto University. She had two-year experience of doing interdisciplinary research in the School of Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University and Washington University in St. Louis. As a full-time Biostatistician in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, she is happy to help doctors/clinicians for any questions in statistical testing and data analysis.

Statistical Services
  • Study design: explain fundamental concepts, formulate research questions in statistics language, and calculate power and sample size

  • Statistical inference: explore and summarize data, choose appropriate statistical tests (e.g., t-test, paired t-test, Mann–Whitney U test) based on study design and research question, and develop potential hypotheses

  • Statistical analysis: use/develop statistical approaches, e.g., linear regression for continuous outcomes, logistic regression for discrete outcomes, cox regression on time-to-event data; repeated measure ANOVA, linear mixed models for longitudinal data, and multivariate analysis.

  • Result interpretation and reporting: help understand SPSS output, visualize results with graphs and charts, and write up results accurately

In addition to our core research facility, we also have an Experimental Surgery Laboratory set up next to the Mortuary to enhance and build up our research capability in developing new surgical skills and techniques. The lab offers facilities for cadaveric dissection in experimental procedures. There are freezers to store body parts used in the experiments. Surgical equipment and energy sources are available. This lab is also suitable for holding courses and workshops on surgical procedures using either cadaveric parts or animal organs. All procedures can be recorded and broadcasted to the Learning Centre.

Our research lab strives to be a self-sufficient research facility to provide centralized core-competent capability to our investigators given its long distance to other research institutions. Led by several experienced scientists with PhD; MBBS, MSc and MBBS, PhD, our research team works closely with our administrative team, coordinators and investigators to achieve tiptop research quality.

Our database research IT Specialist, Mr Lee Kok Meng is mainly supporting the design of internal database and extraction of clinical data from our clinical system. 




Our Team

CRU supports both inpatient and outpatient clinical research activities. Our team of research nurses aims to maximize our contribution in clinical research trials with the understanding of its importance in medical science advancement.

The team comprises of registered nurses trained in both clinical care and research procedures including Singapore Good Clinical Practice (SGGCP) and Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) certification. Post-basic Advance Diploma in Clinical Trial Management (or equivalent qualification) and Proper Conduct of Research are some of the other courses attended by the coordinators to keep abreast with the latest skills and knowledge.

To recruit research volunteers and ensure adherence to informed consent process. 
Biological Sample Collection, Handling, Storage and Shipment according to IATA standards
To ensure the wellbeing and safety of research volunteers during the trial
To monitor progress of studies and ensures protocol compliance
To ensure the capture of high quality research data and data integrity
To coordinate research activities among investigators, study volunteers, research laboratory, scientist, pharmaceutical sponsors and ethnic community.
