Volunteer at KTPH

Khoo Teck Puat Hospital offers a variety of opportunities for members of the public to volunteer their services to patients and their families.

 Activities around the Hospital 
Gardening Club Create a healing environment for our patients by tending to our gardens and organic rooftop vegetable farm. Weekday mornings, at least 2 hrs per session. (dependent on weather)
ABLE Studio Ambassador Help our patients transition from hospital to home. Chat with patients and caregivers to provide useful product information and home care tips. Any day of the week, 2 hrs per session, 10.00am to 2.00pm.


 Patient Related Activities 
Sitter Interact with patients identified to be at high risk of falls and alert the nurse when patients attempts to engage in fall-risk behaviour such as getting out of bed unaided. Volunteers will be trained to engage patients in diversional activities. Any day of the week,
8am to 12pm,
12pm to 5pm.
Inpatient Mobile Library Team Share the joy of reading with our inpatients by bringing our mobile library of reading materials to them. Chat or read with our patients to share some cheer and help them recover quickly! Any day of the week,
2.30pm to 4.30pm.
Rehab Care Socialise with the patients in the wards or specialist outpatient clinics, befriend and engage them in diversional activities such as bringing them to enjoy walks in the gardens. Fluency in dialects and/or foreign languages is essential.

2 options are available (please select one):
  • Dementia Care: to engage elderly patients
  • Rehab Care: to engage patients in rehabilitation activities, to befriend and socialise with patients, to conduct group/individual activities or exercises  
Any day of the week, at least 2 hrs per session, 9.30am to 5.30pm.
Sunshine Buddy The Sunshine Buddy volunteer program aims to nurture a group of committed volunteers who are passionate about assisting and supporting our patients and their caregivers in the wards and clinics.

Roles of the Sunshine Buddy:
  • Help patients and family members find their way around the hospital
  • Help visitors find their way around the hospital and direct them to the right service
  • Translate basic instructions/directions (English and dialects) for needful patients and caregivers at the clinic counters or at the wards (non-medical related)
  • Distribute meals and assist with simple patients' needs during busy ward hours
  • Answer general enquiries and/or direct these to the relevant hospital staff
  • Lend a listening ear to patients and caregivers
To commit at least 6 months, 2 hours per week

 Events & Logistics 
Advance Care Planning (ACP) Assist our nurses and facilitators to man the ACP booth in KTPH Lobby. Interact with patients and members of the public when they approach the booth and give out flyers to spread awareness of ACP. Attend to enquiries related to ACP at the ACP booth.

Training on ACP will be provided.
ACP Booth Operating Hours: Weekdays, 10am – 2pm.

At least 2 hours per session.
Ageing-In-Place Community Care (AIP-CCT) Team Home Visit Assist in promoting the health and well-being of patients by visiting them at their homes, carrying out an array of tasks to support them and flag out concerns to the nurse in-charge.

Roles of volunteers during home visits:
  • Befriending
  • Monitor vital signs, eg. blood pressure
  • Remind clients to take medication
  • Carry out simple exercise with clients
  • Engage clients in diversional activities, eg. simple games, scrapbooking, etc.
  • Escort clients to appointments/ for errands
  • Look out for issues that the patients might be facing, including medical, social and home environment, and ensure prompt feedback to AIP-CCT staff.
To commit at least 6 months.

To fulfill a minimum of 1 session every week. 1 session consists of at least 2 visits, with a recommended duration at least 40 minutes per visit.

Preferably to be available on a weekday morning/afternoon for introductory join-home visit(s) with the nurses - up to volunteers' convenience for day and timing for subsequent visits.
Population Health Assist our nurses with registration, crowd control, survey taking and data entry during health screening events in KTPH or within the northern community. 
You can also accompany our community nurses for home visits.
Weekdays (morning or afternoon)
Material Management Team Assist in data entry, picking and topping up of store supplies in various locations in the hospital, and assembling of wound dressing packages. Weekdays during office hours, at least 2 hrs per session, timing flexible. 
Logistics/ Administration Support the admin and operations departments through tasks such as data entry and database management, design of publicity materials, placement of posters and signage for various events, wrapping corporate gifts, packing corporate collaterals etc for health events. Weekdays and Saturdays, at least 2 hrs per session, timing flexible, depending on the event.
