“Dr Jen Tan is a US-trained, Board-Certified surgeon who is known to many students as a consummate teacher and model clinician. Despite being a full time attending consultant surgeon running a busy hepatobiliary service, Dr Tan will find time to arrange special tutorials and is frequently found mentoring students late into the evening. This commitment to teaching has been affirmed by his students, who nominated him to win the "Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine Top Ten Teachers Award" in 2008. He is also a certified FLS (Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery) trainer and is familiar with the rigors of the American residency progamme. As a member of the NHG Residency Programme Committee, his experience will certainly prove invaluable to set the ethos for our local residency programme and shape the pedagogy for our next generation of trainees.”

Testimonial from Dr Sim Hsien Lin, Registrar

"I have always inspired to be like Mr Tan Kok Yang. Tribulations in life have not brought him down but made him even stronger. He is one man who aims to make constant progress in his career, teaching , research and clinical care. He has created the Geriatric Surgery Team with a few other inspirng and caring physicians. It is certainly amazing to see the old folks up on their feet and heading back home in the early post-operative period after a major surgery. His genuine care and love for all his patients has deeply touched my heart. His efforts and time spent on patient care are what we juniors should emulate. Kok Yang is certainly a tough mentor and tutor. His juniors are expected to perform at his/her best at all times. Research and answers to better clinical care are always on his mind. I am always inspired and amazed by his number of publications and new research ideas. I am fortunate to have such a tutor who makes sure that I do my best at all times when it comes to surgeries, clinical care and research."
