National Psychiatry Program Overview

KTPH Psychiatry posting is an integral part of the NHG-AHPL National Psychiatric Residency Program. Residents could be rotated to KTPH from R2 to R5 for posting of Liaison Psychiatry and Continuity Clinics. They would be exposed to a wide ranging clinical experience. Besides managing patients with various Psychological and Mental Health issues in Medical and Surgical setting, residents could also learn to manage cases in the areas of Old Age Psychiatry and Eating Disorders.

Dr Ong Seh Hong did his postgraduate training with Charing Cross-Westminster Psychiatric Rotation at London. His interests are in General Adult and Old Age Psychiatry. He is visiting consultant to TTSH, IMH and Ren Ci Hospital. Incidentally, he has been a Member of Parliament since 2001.

Dr Christopher Cheok treats adults and children with stress and depression. He has a special interest in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He manages children and teenagers with Hyperactivity, Depression, Anxiety and other behaviour problems. He is an adviser to the Juvenile Court of Singapore. He also specialises in Psychological Trauma and he is a certified traumatologist and a member of the American Academy of Traumatology. As the former head of psychiatry for the Singapore Armed Forces, Dr Cheok has special experience dealing with soldiers with problems in National Service. He is active in research and has published numerous articles in medical journals. He is the principal investigator of $3.5million grant to study biomarkers of stress from the Ministry of Defence. He has also helped in various humanitarian missions to Cambodia, East Timor and Aceh during the Asian Tsunami.

Dr Chan Keen Loong began his psychiatric career in 1992, with one year of fellowship training at the University of Iowa in 2000. His interests are in General Adult Psychiatry, Neuropsychiatry, Psychodermatology and Accupuncture. He runs clinics at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, Jurong Medical Centre and National Skin Centre. He is on the MOH-appointed Visitor's Board to IMH and the MCYS-appointed Elder Protection Team.
